Our Dolphin sculpture is a mainstay in our collectable Marine Life glass art product line.

Acting as a small addition to the house, or providing a centrepiece which is sure to draw attention from visitors, due to its beauty and flawless outline.

Hand sculpting a dolphin is a skilled and intricate process, with our master glass artist spending years learning the techniques. The difficulty comes in the timing of the crafting the ornament, due to the role in which gravity plays on the molten glass.

Having to try and time the twists of the blowing pipe, whilst pulling out the beak and the fins at the right moment. Following the creation of the face, the tail of the ornament needs to be pulled, which involves a pontil or punty being attached to the face of the dolphin.

Where the blow hole goes.

The back of the dolphin is then reheated and the tail can then be shaped producing the beautiful smooth dolphin shape which can be seen in our images.

This product is handblown in our seaside studio in Weymouth, Dorset by master glass blower Stuart Wiltshire.

Glassblowing Process

I make these myself.

I only make one order at a time, placing the ashes into a metal tray, then gathering the molten glass and first adding any colours you have chosen.

When I have melted these to the surface of the glass, I reheat the glass then pick up a small amount of ashes, (about half a teaspoon full) for a paperweight, but need a bit more to make sure I have enough, returning any left over with your order.

I then mix the ashes and colour together in my Glory hole at about 1180 degrees C into swirls and patterns.  I then cool the first part down to about 650 degrees and gather molten 1120 degrees glass over the top encasing the ashes inside.

I then hand-shape and make this into your chosen piece, whether it be a paperweight, candle holder, heart paperweight, small Vortex vase or even a heart shaped sculpture.

I assure you, your chosen piece will be made with the upmost respect and passion. as I have a serious love for glass-making and making people happy using the skills I have been lucky enough to learn and share.
